Consumer Protection (Electronic Trade Transactions) Regulations 2024
Starting 24 June 2025, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) will begin enforcing the Consumer Protection (Electronic Trade Transactions) Regulations 2024 (“Regulations”), which came into operation on 25 December 2024.
In line with the new Regulations, sellers are required to:
- Disclose Seller’s Information: Disclose the seller’s name / company / business name, NRIC / company / business registration number (where applicable), email address, telephone number and business address on the online marketplace.
- Use of Bahasa Malaysia All product titles and descriptions must be written in Bahasa Malaysia. Translations in other languages are allowed in addition to the Malay version.

What Should Sellers Do?

Update your Seller Details on the Seller Dashboard
Ensure that your details in Seller Dashboard are updated. Sellers are required to disclose seller’s name / company / business name, NRIC / company / business registration number (where applicable), email address, telephone number and business address on the online marketplace. This disclosure requirement is in addition to your obligation to provide information for the implementation of e-invoicing.

Use Bahasa Malaysia in product titles, and product description
Update all product listings to ensure:
- Product titles and descriptions are in Bahasa Malaysia
- Other languages may be included if needed.

Provide valid product certification (where applicable)

The following is an example of a non-exhaustive list of products that have applicable safety and health standards as determined by the relevant authorities. Sellers are reminded to exercise due diligence and ensure that the appropriate certificate details are properly provided / uploaded.

Enforcement Actions
Sellers who fail to comply with the Regulations may face the following enforcement actions from KPDN pursuant to the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
- For Individual Sellers:

- First Offence: Fine up to RM50,000, imprisonment up to 3 years, or both.

- Second or Subsequent Offence: Fine up to RM100,000, imprisonment up to 5 years, or both.
- For Corporate Entities:

- First Offence: Fine up to RM100,000.

- Second or Subsequent Offence: Fine up to RM200,000.
